Cubs is the third Scouting section and introduces 8 – 10½ year olds to all sorts of exciting new activities and adventures.

What do Cubs get up to?

Our Cub pack meets up every week to take part in lots of exciting and challenging activities, exploring the great outdoors and going on amazing adventures.

Cubs Crate Climb Challenge

Cubs go camping 4 times a year, build dens, go on hikes, climb trees & abseil down again, paddle about in canoes, whizz down zip wires and even shoot air rifles!  As a Cub, your young person will learn new practical skills, like how to cook a delicious meal, light a fire, give first aid and map reading.  Our Cubs learn through games of skill, mental agility and physical, learning to work together as a team and developing their leadership skills and build friendships along the way.

6th Lichfield Cubs take part in District activities such as quizzes, scouting skills competitions, football, cross country, where we meet other Cub packs and take part in all sorts of challenges with them.  Life as a Cub Scout is fun, adventurous, and rewarding.

Meet our Cub Leaders

Our amazing Cub Scout Leaders help to develop and deliver our Cub programme, events and activities.  Leaders go by names from The Jungle Book, a tradition carried down since Cub Scouts were first formed in 1916!  All our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe, inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Chris aka ‘Akela’ is our Cub Scout Leader

The Cub Leader team has a lot of experience and consists of adults across the age range spectrum from 65 to 21 and a team of Young Leaders who are training with us either as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s award or as part of a Young Leader Unit.

Being part of this team is a whole lot of fun. If you would like to join our team why not drop us a mail on our volunteering page

Badges and Awards

Being a Cub is all about giving new things a go, and growing as a person, and from your very first day as a Cub, you'll be earning badges and awards, starting with your World Membership Badge, and going from there. You can work towards as many as you like, at your own pace, and by the time you've left the Cub pack and joined the Scout troop, you'll have badges all over your sweater!

Challenge awards are designed to do exactly that - challenge you.  They make you step outside of your comfort zone, try things you wouldn't usually be interested in, or take the lead on something that you think is a bit scary.  Earning a challenge award is a huge achievement, and you'll need to complete a number of ambitious tasks - not just within your Cub pack, but in the wider community.

Cubs work hard to achieve their Chief Scout’s Silver Award, the highest award in Cub Scouting.

Joining Cubs at 6th Lichfield

Sounds fun? Yes it is!  Everyone’s welcome here.

If you have any questions about how we can make Cubs accessible to your young person, get in touch with us and we’ll have a chat.  We can easily tweak things to make sure that everyone can join in the fun.  We want to ensure your young person has the best possible experience in Scouts.

By joining Cubs, your young person becomes part of a worldwide movement, dedicated to helping them develop life skills they can use in the real world, while having fun, adventure and making new friends.  We’re so confident that your young person will love Cubs that their first session is free of charge. After this, a membership fee will become due.

All you need to do is register your details on our waiting list.  We’ll get in touch when your young person reaches the age to join and we have a space.

Update, April 2023

At this time all of our sections are full and we have had to close our waiting lists. Please have a look on the website Find your local Scout Group | Scouts for alternative groups in this area.

Cub Uniform

Once you’ve joined Cubs and settled in you’ll be earning lots of brilliant badges and need somewhere to put them.  This is what our uniform looks like.  We are proud to wear the famous red and white neckerchief and if ever you see this in Lichfield, it is one of our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Leaders wearing it.

Young people are amazing – we’re here to help them realise this.

Invest in your young person’s future with us

Every week, we help our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to get going, get thinking and get stuck into all sorts of things to help them get on their own two feet and give them real skills they'll be able to take into the real world. We call it our Skills For Life programme.

Our youth members get to try new things, master new skills, have fun and go on adventures, make new friends, learn about the world around them, help other people and help make a difference, both in the local community and in the wider world.  With the right help and support, they can all be amazing.

Our volunteers are our everyday heroes that have empowered hundreds of young people that have walked through our doors to do all this and more.

That’s where you come in.  Find out how you can help, in whatever way you can make work for you.

It doesn't matter if you weren't a Scout, or if you've never put a tent up in your life, and you don't need to be Bear Grylls. Our doors are open to people who share our values, regardless of ages, gender, race or background - people who help us make a positive change to our young people's lives.

So, if you're a tea-maker, tidy-upper, skill-sharer, minibus-driver, first-aider or a parent that wants to volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family, then perhaps being a volunteer at 6th Lichfield Scout Group will be perfect for you.  Whatever skills you've got, and however much time you've got, there's something you can do that will help.

And if that sounds like fun to you, and if it sounds like it's worthwhile, there's a good reason:

it is.
